My Way or the Highway?

Cypress Health Region

Sadly the exodus from health care facilities is continuing.

Staff don’t want to leave but feel pressure to do so because they keep getting told to move on with their lives, or leave if you don’t like it.

At Palliser Regional Care Centre, the employer recently undertook a focus survey to better understand the problems…this was the POW focus survey.  The staff were thinking that POW was short for ‘Patronize Our Workers’.

But now managers are just giving up.  They obviously did not like to hear the comments made by the staff in the survey process. Now Cypress is getting people from out of province in to solve our problems?  They are called the CREW.

We’ve already told them part of the solution but they don’t want to listen.

Do they not realize that staff turn-over has a profound effect on the people who rely on the care SEIU-West members provide?

Not to mention the effect it has on our members?  How can work and care be safe when we are constantly under-staffed?

  1. Would like to know what became of the surveys that the staff filled out? I heard that they shredded them once they read them as they were deemed to negative I guess they really don't want to know what the staff think! I also understand that CREW stands for Civillity,Respect, and Engagement in the Workplace? Does the supposed shredding of these surveys not constitute disrespect of the employees opinions? They say they want us to move on but how can we when we are shown no respect for how we think and what we feel. I hope the members of crew who ever they are will be impartial that they will look at both sides of this story and see that the staff in this district are only wanting to be treated with civility and respect and the are willing to engage in fair talks that bring us to a better future for us and our clients! Nothing short of a full investigation of what has transpired in the last year may be needed to solve this situation and This investigation should be done by a totally unbiased committee .
