Part-time solutions to a FULL-Time problem

Cypress Health Region - Palliser Regional Care Centre

In their wisdom, and much to the staff’s disappointment, the Cypress Health Region has decided to post jobs to help fill the need for staff.

Sounds good right?

Not really.

They are posting for part-time positions when there is a full time need.

Below are images of the postings that went up recently for various jobs.

Here’s a quick summary:

Part-Time:
SCA (3)
Office Admin Assistant (1)
Food Service Worker (1)
Unit Assistant (1)
Home Care Aide (2)

Full-Time:
Office Administrative Assistant (1)

Temporary Part-time:
Health Records clerk (2)
Office Administrative Assistant (1)
Staff Scheduler (1)
Home Care Aide (3)

Temporary Full-time:
Special Care Aide (1)

Notice anything? The majority of the temporary positions are in the actual DELIVERY of care.

Time for the Region to step up and fill these jobs permanently.

  1. In 2006, SAHO announced a 19 million dollar increase to the out of scope employees in Health Regions. They stated the increases would address "concerns including market lag, pay equity, salary compression, senior retirements and the need to be competitive in a tight labor market'. The number of OOS employees was 2,229 (full-time-equivalents).
In Jan of 2011, SAHO wasted no time and announced the next round of increases to OOS employees. They surely did not have to wait to years or have their retro-active pay threatened.
What is interesting is that the number of OOS employees affected by the 2011 increases is 2500(full-time-equivalents). An increase of 271 positions!!
There is something very wrong with this picture!
No money for full time front line positions??
We know where the money is going, no matter what they tell the media, or how they spin it to the public.
